An opportunity arose to work with my colleague Angus Mackenzie on this project in Tamarama. By creating a detailed 3D CAD model we could explore all of the design opportunities and ensure minimal view blocking would occur in a neighbourhood of closely packed prime real estate.

The existing three-storey house has breathtaking panoramic coastal views and virtually ‘sits’ on top of Mackenzie’s Bay.

Initial design ideas explored ‘subtracting’ large parts of the existing house to allow abundant amounts of natural light into living spaces with the subsequent reduction in building footprint vastly improving the size and quality of the outdoor areas. It is proposed that the current pool and yard will receive a face-lift in keeping with the new proposal. Views are framed from all living spaces, and a sinuous sculptural stair will link all three floors and allow natural light into the heart of the home.
