Millthorpe, NSW
October, 2009

A contemporary country home for a young family. Located just outside of the historic village of Millthorpe the site forms part of a small rural residential subdivision. A driving force behind the design was its response to the climatic extremes of the region, along with affording views over the nearby creek and rolling hills of the surrounding farmland. A strong programmatic brief aimed to organise the various components of the house to suit the growing family.

The Kitchen forms the nucleus of the home from which two sleeping wings and a large open plan living area extend. Large blade walls help to define each space whilst providing a sense of entry and masking the garage. A partially enclosed courtyard links the two sleeping areas and provides shelter from the prevailing winter winds. Recycled bluestone feature walls are sourced from the neighbouring family property.
